As a Young Entrepreneur, It’s You and Your Headphones Against the World
The best purchase I ever made, period.
The key to building a venture capital firm holding $19.2 billion in assets? Treating entrepreneurs with respect. That’s what Ben Horowitz, half of Andreessen Horowitz believes. Speaking with Tim Ferriss, he said this:
“If an entrepreneur takes time out of their day to come see us, we’re going to respect the fact how hard it is and we’re always going to be on time. No excuses, plan your day, finish that phone call five minutes before you have to meet with the entrepreneur. Go to the bathroom earlier or don’t drink that eighth cup of coffee.”
Respect. When you’re one of the millions of young entrepreneurs trying to make a name for themselves, finding someone that listens is hard. You might see blog posts from people in your field detailing how they made $100,000 in their first year, but you’re struggling to find a client.
I’ve been there. It sucks.
You want to be heard. In the beginning, that’s what you need more than anything — for someone to open their ears up and be receptive. But that might take a while. In the meantime, there is one thing a young entrepreneur such as yourself can rely on.
