Assertive People Rule the World

If you aren’t, you won’t get what you want.

One day, my scary headteacher asked me to show some people around the school. Being a lazy teenager, I wasn’t overly pleased.

The next day, I passed the headteacher. “Max, I hear the tour went well,” he said.

Without looking at him, I said, “yeah, all good,” and kept walking. It may not seem like much, but I suddenly realized how rude I came across.

“I can’t be that bad, can I?” I thought to myself. I should’ve been more polite. Even so, it didn’t affect my relationship with him.

Looking back as an adult, I realize you need to be assertive to get your way.

Being Assertive Can Get People to Listen to You

It’s true when people say the world is a better place when people are more kind to one another. Research has found that carrying out kind acts triggers the release of serotonin. Our brains will gobble that up all day long.

At first, some people may find assertiveness somewhat abrasive, but you’re putting yourself first. You can be polite and assertive at the same time.

Just because you are polite doesn’t mean you are a pushover.
