Like many of us, I have struggled to maintain a consistent workload while working at home. At various periods throughout the day, I found myself slumping down in my chair; forgetting how to formulate a sentence. As if the productivity gods were standing over my shoulder, I would try and write as much as possible in three-hour blocks. I felt guilty about taking breaks, which is why between 66% and 82% of workers don’t, according to health psychologists at Staffordshire University.

My mindset was static. Any sense of clarity I had at the start of the day vanished. Lately, however, I’ve begun to think with more agility. By approaching clarity in different, more complementary ways, I have made my workload streamlined and managed my ability to make a breakthrough. Here’s how.

Start with the Pomodoro productivity technique

On a typical workday, you may feel as if you’re stuck in a time loop. That’s because you’re operating like a long-distance runner — attempting to go at the same pace all day long. When you do this, the day ahead can seem blurry and never-ending.
