Successful people value their time. That includes their free time.

Most people are so focused on their work-life they forget what to do when they have some time to themselves. They feel hungover from the productivity of their work, so they slob around.

How successful you are is based on how you think about success. If you are in the pure pursuit of your goals, you will adapt your free time and work on yourself.

Over the last few years of change, I’ve gone from a student to a graduate, an unemployed graduate, a part-time worker, and now a writer too. I’ve learned that the successful use of your free time can set you apart if you do it properly. Here’s a bit of guidance.

Know what you want to improve and let that guide you

Around the start of the year, a friend of mine asked me “what are your new year resolutions?”

I then spooled out a wildly varied list:

  • Learn Italian.
  • Learn how to play the piano.
  • Become a paid writer.
  • Leave my job to pursue a career in writing.
